Montgrí, les Illes Medes i el Baix Ter Natural Park in a carriage

Add to my Wish List

The marine habitat that forms the Illes Medes is possibly the most well-known part of the park. The surrounding area of the Montgrí, les Illes Medes i el Baix Ter Natural Park however, is also a very exciting area to discover with the family.

Did you know for instance, that at the foot of Montgrí there is a huge continental sand dune that has been pushed across by the north wind from the Gulf of Roses? Or that there are archaeological remains from the Lower Paleolithic, from 300,000 years ago? Or that the largest population of cave bats in Catalonia lives there?

The experience of discovering this part of the park can be made even better if you do it with a horse-drawn carriage. At Hípica Mas Paguina they organise these guided routes to do with your children.

You’ll be taken on a journey into the past of this mode of transport and it’s a quiet way to get to know this protected natural area of the Costa Brava. The carriages are designed up to carry seven people and the tour takes an hour, although from the horse club they offer flexibility to suit the needs of each family.

Climb into the carriage and let yourself be taken among the oak groves, marshes and garrigues that outline the landscape of this natural park in Catalonia.
