From Olot to Girona by bike

Add to my Wish List

Discover La Garrotxa and the Gironès as a family by cycling through forests and passing by castles and rivers. The Carrilet Route is a 57 kilometre trail, suitable for pedestrians and cyclists, which allows you to reach the city of Girona from La Garrotxa. It is perfect for enjoying a day out with your children, as the route is in very good condition and well signposted. This path crosses twelve towns in three different counties and allows you to get to know the valleys of the rivers Fluvià, Brugent and Ter, passing through green landscapes and more urban areas.

You can decide if you do it in its entirety or if you do a section, for example from Olot to Les Planes d’Hostoles. The Carrilet Route follows the path of the old narrow-gauge train that used to connect Olot and Girona. It starts by travelling through the volcanic landscape found in the area of La Garrotxa, and allows you to see how the medieval fortress of Hostoles Castle appears midway, as you pass through municipalities such as Anglès. The route leads to the Salt marshes and ends in the middle of the city of Girona, where you can enjoy a well-deserved rest if you have completed the route.
