We invite you to enjoy a family day in Malgrat de Mar where you will learn and discover everything about the mining past of the town. A day that includes sport, culture and fun.
The journey begins with a kayak excursion exploring Pilona. On this sea structure, just a few metres away from the coast, a platform was built where the iron ore loading station was located, and where the iron-filled railcars from the mine arrived and were then loaded onto the ships. They travelled 1.5 km over the sea until they reached the transport ship.
While you navigate with the kayak, you will be able to see closely one of the symbols of the past of Malgrat, and see the pretty maritime aspect of the village.
After that, you will have a good lunch of pizza on the seafront promenade to get ready for the afternoon activity. The next exciting plan after lunch is one of the most fun ones: a ride in a bicycle carriage that you will move yourself by pedalling. The little ones can enjoy the streets and the atmosphere of the town while being comfortably seated.
Also, there are modernist buildings to admire, such as the Peixateries Velles, an area of the market where the fishmongers used to be located, and which still preserves the stone where the fish used to be placed. Don’t miss the Casas de los Maestros, a building next to the school where the teachers used to live, or the Town Hall, designed by Antoni de Falguera, a pupil of Domènech i Montaner, with its characteristic sgraffito style front. Discover Malgrat de Mar and enjoy a sportive and historical day with the whole family.
The activity lasts the whole day and includes kayak rental, 2 hours of bike-car activity and lunch in a local restaurant. The meeting point is the nautical station of Malgrat de Mar.
