Go snorkelling in the El Vendrell marine reserve

Add to my Wish List

Sign up for an aquatic activity in the Masia Blanca del Vendrell marine reserve, unique for its ecological value. The visit begins in the aquatic classroom. There you can see an informative exhibition and a documentary that will help children understand the importance of taking care of the sea and preserving marine biodiversity.

One interesting fact they will tell you, is that at the bottom of the reserve there is the grapisar, a plant formation made from the accumulation of red calcareous algae that is found over 20 metres deep. This serves as shelter and food for a great diversity of species of flora and fauna.

You will also discover that the waters of the reserve are naturally enriched by the Font Déu de Brisamar thermal spring, which emanates at 19 ºC throughout the year. Finally, you will learn about some of the things that cannot be done in a marine reserve, such as extracting any species that live there, including fish, minerals, rocks, etc. Fishing and the use of jet skis are also forbidden, for example.

You will then be invited to put on your goggles and fins for snorkeling. You will leave on foot from the beach and board a motorboat that will take you out to sea a few metres from the coast. Accompanied by an instructor from the reserve, you will see incredible meadows of oceanic posidonia, fish such as conger, sea bass, sea bream or red mullet. There are also octopuses and cuttlefish, and with a bit of luck you’ll see some starfish.

Your outing must always be booked 24 hours in advance. The schedule of activities is from the beginning of July until the first week of September. There are two departure times, at 9am and at 11.30am.
