In the Pyrenees of Catalonia and the inland counties of the region there is a great variety of campsites where you can stay with your family. All of them are staffed, with an entertainment team as well, and they offer sports and fun activities. Their facilities are designed for children to have a great time and enjoy their surroundings. Whether in a pitch, a tent, a bungalow or your own motorhome, adventurous days with your family await you. Here are ten campsites for you to enjoy the mountains.

Staying in a log cabin is always an exciting adventure for children. At the Orri del Pallars campsite, as well as the rustic-style, fully equipped bungalows, you also have the option of spending the starlit nights in Bengali tents made of canvas.

This campsite in Pirineus-Noguera Pallaresa has a swimming pool, playgrounds, a games area, a football pitch and volleyball courts. Here you can also enjoy swimming in the river, try your hand at fishing mountain trout and also practise rafting, the star sport of the area. In the natural surroundings of L’Orri del Pallars are the Alt Pirineu Natural Park and the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park, two places where you can go hiking, mountain biking and horse riding, to enjoy the beauty of the Pallars landmarks.

Vall d’en Bas – Les Preses, volcanic landscapes at Les Preses Natura campsite

Have you ever stayed close to a volcano? At Les Preses Natura campsite you’ll have the chance to, as it’s located in the Volcanic Zone Natural Park. Sign up to discover this park where the spectacular Croscat volcano takes centre stage, with its unique horseshoe-shaped crater.

At the campsite’s facilities, children will get to enjoy the swimming pool and kids’ area, with a sandpit, as well as a small farm with animals. The accommodation offers professional local guides who will be able to show you the most fascinating places in the area. Balloon rides, bicycle routes and horse-drawn carriages through the Fageda d’en Jordà, a fairytale forest, are some of the other activities you can do in the natural surroundings of this campsite in Vall d’en Bas – Les Preses. Bike&Run campsites at Valls d’Àneu

To enjoy the unique mountain areas of the Valls d’Àneu as a family, why not stay at the Bike&Run campsites? They are surrounded by historic paths and trails, starting and ending at the campsite, which you can explore on foot or on a mountain bike, without the need to take the car. The Aigüestortes Càmping Resort offers seven Bike&Run routes and the Nou Càmping offers five. In addition to the entertainment activities with the staff, at the mini club in July and August kids can enjoy the swimming pool and children’s play area.

These two places to stay are located at the gates of the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park, a place where you can go hiking, ride a horse or practise mountain biking. If you like water sports, whether it’s something adventurous or more tranquil, why not visit Torrassa Lake where you can go canoeing and kayaking and have a go at paddle surfing? For the little ones, there are giant inflatables. The campsites also organise rafting trips on the Noguera-Pallaresa river. Make the most of your stay in Les Valls d’Àneu to visit the workshops of artisan sausage, cheese and yoghurt producers in the area, the MónNatura Pirineus wildlife refuge and the fascinating Butterfly Museum.

Vall de Camprodon, wildlife, counts and wooden igloos

In Sant Pau de Segúries, in the heart of Vall de Camprodon, is Els Roures campsite where a family atmosphere is at the heart of what they do. There is a children’s pool, monitored at all times by a lifeguard. There is also a games room where children can enjoy workshops and entertain themselves with recreational games. The little ones have their own special area with a rubber floor so they don’t get hurt, where they will find teaching material and games.

Parents can relax in the spa area with hot and cold water, and a Turkish bath with chromotherapy while the children have fun with the entertainment activities. Very close to the campsite is the Molló Parc wildlife refuge, which also has an adventure circuit in the trees with zip lines. It’s a fail-proof family plan!

Have you ever slept in a pod? If you’d like to give it a go, the Vall de Camprodon campsite is waiting for you. Pods are fun wooden igloos where children will love to spend the night! The campsite also has tipi tents, like those of the Native Americans. If your little ones like animals, the campsite has a farm with horses, lambs, goats, rabbits, chickens and ducks where they can pet them under the supervision of the farmer.

The fun never ends at this campsite, where children can spend the day getting wet at the Splash Park, the pool’s play area, and making their way around the adventure circuit with climbing nets, a raised bridge and ropes to test their balance. If you would like to get to know the natural areas of the region, go to the protected area of the Serra Cavallera or take the opportunity to go on a guided tour The Land of Counts and Abbots at the Count Arnau Museum in Gombrèn, and at Mataplana Castle to learn about this noble knight.

 

Berga, a campsite which is a water park!

The impressive water park is what stands out when you arrive at the Berga resort. There is a swimming pool with five giant slides and the Splash Park. This water area has a route with fountains, waterfalls and geysers for the little ones to enjoy an aquatic adventure! One of the most popular attractions is the splash pad, a giant bucket of water that falls on top of the little ones! Parents also have an area to relax in the Wellness Centre with a water circuit.

The Mini Club at the Berga campsite organises all kinds of activities and entertainment workshops, but if you want to explore the surroundings there are many things to do. Hiking in the Cadí Moixeró Natural Park is a great option. You can also try the via ferratas and go canyoning, two sports that are enjoyed in this area. If you like water sports, in the Baells reservoir you can practise water skiing and take a kayaking trip. A visit to the Cement Museum in the old Asland factory and the Artigas Gardens, designed by Antoni Gaudí, on board the Cement Train is also a great plan for a family day out.

Muntanyes de Prades, farm animals and starry skies

The spectacular landscape of Muntanyes de Prades is what you will see when you wake up at Serra de Prades resort campsite. In addition to being pet friendly, there is a mini zoo with chickens, rabbits, goats and ponies. Children can feed them and interact with them. An expert farmer is in charge of explaining to them how the animals live and their daily habits. Owly, a friendly owl who is the campsite’s mascot, welcomes you on arrival and is also the protagonist of many of the activities and workshops that are organised there. It even has its own dance that the little ones will enjoy taking part in!

Care for the environment is very present in the family activities of the campsite which organises environmental education workshops for birds of prey, where you will discover all the secrets about these birds of the area. You can also sign up to do the flower route, an excursion where you can learn to recognise the species found in the Muntanyes de Prades area.

At the Càmping & Bungalow Prades Park you’ll find a family friendly and very active environment. Children will be entertained by participating in workshops and activities. There is also a large sports area for them to have fun with football pitches, beach volleyball, basketball and paddle courts. Many excursions can be done in the natural surroundings of the campsite.

One of these routes takes you to the Abellera hermitage, 2 km from Prades and very close to the campsite. It is embedded in the cliff, at 1,020 metres high, and from there you can see the entire valley of the Brugent river. You can also try a mountain bike route to discover gorges and natural springs in the area. And if you like stargazing, you’re in the right place. The sky in the natural surroundings of Prades is ideal for astronomical observation thanks to its darkness and low levels of light pollution. At the Muntanyes de Prades Astronomical Park you will enjoy shows about the constellations and the universe, held in a room with a 360º view.

Els Ports, a nature reserve next to Els Ports campsite and bungalows park

Els Ports campsite and bungalows park is located at the gates of Els Ports Natural Park, in Horta de Sant Joan. It is an area which hides many legends, such as that of Boy of Muntanyes de Prades, a famous guerrilla who was the son of a shepherd from the area. This is one of the characters included in the entertainment activities at the campsite, and children will learn about this story while having fun.

The children’s area, the large swimming pool and the sports area will be where you carry out your day-to-day activities with the little ones, but the natural surroundings of Els Ports has a whole host of family activities to enjoy. For starters, you can take part in adventure sports such as rock climbing and canyoning. You can also sign up to walk the Green Way of Terra Alta. It is an old railway route that connected Tortosa with Aragon, where you will cross tunnels and viaducts and ride through very diverse landscapes. Els Ports is also home to the Mel d’Arnes Interpretation Centre. This has several fun and educational spaces where you will learn all about bees through play.
