The Invincible Warrior of Blanes
It is said that in Blanes there was a well-known character called Theolongo Bacchio. This Iberian leader has become legendary for the people of this town on the coast, where they call him the Invincible Warrior. His greatest exploit was defending Blanes, in the fight against Hannibal’s Carthaginian army during the Second Punic War. His highest merit was that no one was able to overcome him in any battle, no matter how hard they tried. But what could his secret be? Well, it’s very simple: iron. It turns out that the Iberians not only had good war tactics, but they could also make all kinds of shields, spears, helmets and daggers to face up to the enemy. In each battle that took place, new weapons were made. They always had reserves and were prepared to fight to the end. That was how Blanes was able to resist the attack of Hannibal’s army.
