Princess Pyrenee of the Pyrenees – Noguera Pallaresa
Legend has it that Pyrenee was a princess, famous for her beauty, who fell love with Hercules, with whom she met secretly in the woods. Pyrenee’s father discovered them and banished Hercules, but Pyrenee kept visiting the woods hoping to find him. During one of these walks, Pyrenee came across Geryon, a monster who wanted to take the princess. Geryon, to prevent her escape, set fire to the woods. Hercules began to build giant mountains in honor of Pyrenee, such as Geganta Adormida, Mainera, Montsent de Pallars, Pic de l’Orri… and that is how the Pyrenees were born! We think that Princess Pyrenee rests under the Geganta Adormida, surrounded by some of the most spectacular natural spaces on the Iberian Peninsula: the UNESCO World Geopark, the Alt Pirineu Natural Park, and the Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park, in the Pyrenees-Noguera Pallaresa.
