In Catalonia, more than 180 food and wine events are held each year. If you don’t know which one to choose, here are some of the most outstanding events.
January
Festa del Vi Novell i de l’Oli Nou (First Wine of the Harvest and New Oil Festival)
Place: Bot
Designation of Origin: DO Terra Alta
The New Wine and New Oil Festival is one of Catalonia’s first festivals of the year and dedicated to these two products. It is held at the Agrícola Sant Josep winery and offers a wide range of wines to be tasted from the winery along with olive oils to sample.

Jornades Gastronòmiques del Corder de la Terra Alta (Lamb-themed Gastronomic Days in Terra Alta)

Throughout the month, the region’s restaurants prepare special menus with lamb as the main ingredient, combining it with quality products from the area such as wine and olive oil.
March
“Decanta”
Place: Sant Sadurní d’Anoia and Sant Llorenç d’Hortons
Designation of Origin: DO Penedès and DO Cava
Decanta is a festival which combines music and signature wines and Cavas. It is held in March in the municipalities of Sant Sadurní d’Anoia and Sant Llorenç d’Hortons. Concerts are organised, in which the music of the artists is linked to the wines and Cavas of a DO Penedès or DO Cava winery.
Festa del Vi i l’Oli Novell (Wine and New Oil Festival)
Place: Sant Jaume dels Domenys
Designation of Origin: DO Tarragona
This festival is held at the beginning of the year and offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy a traditional farmhouse breakfast made with local products, a display of ancient arts and crafts along with a gathering of lacemakers. There is also a food market which features wine and olive oil products.

Mercat de Vins i Caves (Wine and Cava Market)
Place: Montblanc
Designation of Origin: DO Conca de Barberà
The Wine and Cava Market is a golden opportunity to taste the latest new wines along with the classics from the county’s wineries. In the Plaça de Santa Maria you can taste the wines and sparkling wines from the DO Conca de Barberà wineries.
Festival del Vi Vívid (Vívid Wine Festival)

Designation of Origin: DO Empordà
Vívid is a festival linked to the world of wine and wine tourism which, throughout the month of April, offers an extensive programme of activities, such as wine tastings in unique locations, in monasteries or the coves of Cap de Creus and tastings paired with music and a wide range of food and wine.
Fira del Vi Dolç (Sweet Wine Fair)
Place: Figueres (April and May)
Designation of Origin: DO Empordà
This event is exclusively dedicated to the genuine and renowned sweet wines of the DO Empordà. It includes pairing sessions, a sales fair, tasting sessions as well as cocktail workshops.
Fira de les cooperatives agrícoles del Priorat (Priorat Agricultural Cooperatives Fair)
Place: Falset (Saturday before Easter)
Designation of Origin: DO Montsant
The exhibition offers the opportunity of tasting DOQ Priorat and DO Montsant wines as well as PDO Siurana oils. Apart from the tasting, the day includes other complementary activities related to these featured agri-food products.

The main activities of this wine festival are to present the small wineries, the Nit de Sumolls (an evening dedicated to the Sumoll grape variety) and hold wine tastings of the Garraf Massif wines. In addition, the programme is completed with other events distributed in various emblematic locations in Avinyonet del Penedès.

This is a gastronomic experience to enjoy, learn, exchange experiences, and get to know and discover the local products. Cheese producers from all over Catalonia and winemakers from the DOQ Priorat and the DO Montsant wineries will offer you their new products for you to taste.
“Poboleda de Vins”

The wineries in the town of Poboleda that organise this exhibition maintain the formula of combining wine tasting and local cuisine with a community and family approach, so that visitors of all different ages and profiles can participate.
El vi de la Passió (Wine of the Passion – Easter celebrations)
Place: Vilalba dels Arcs
Designation of Origin: DO Terra Alta
Within the framework of La Passió de Vilalba Easter celebrations, a guided tasting is organised including various wines from the wineries of Vilalba dels Arcs which form part of the DO Terra Alta. In addition, during the tasting, the clay amphorae containing the Wine of the Passion are opened and the wine is tasted for the first time after having been sealed months before.

Agramunt’s Local Wine and Cava Exhibition was first held in 2013 with the aim of making tastings of wine products from the DO Costers del Segre available to the general public.
Arrels del Vi (Wine Roots)

A unique opportunity to taste more than 100 samples of the best Empordà wines in a Riedel glass and be able to buy some real wine gems from the DO Empordà range at winery prices.

Several wineries in the DO Empordà and restaurateurs in the Plaça Independència in Girona present you with pairings of Empordà wines with culinary tastings from bars and restaurants in the area.
Fira del Vi (Wine Fair)
Place: Falset
Designation of Origin: DO Montsant and DOQ Priorat
This fair dedicated to the wines of the two designations of origin of the region, the DOQ Priorat and the DO Montsant is held in the first weekend of May in Falset. The exhibiting wineries offer a tasting of their wines and, as fringe events, there are conferences, introductory courses to wine tasting, open days in various wineries, among other activities which are held over the same weekend.

Temps de Vi (Wine Festival)

You can enjoy lots of different activities and celebrations, held over three days in the heart of Vilanova i la Geltrú; wine is the featured product of the festival. There will be some forty stands representing various designations of origin, food stands, musical performances and a children’s area with activities related to the world of wine.

Tast amb Dones (Wine Tasting with Women)

Tasting for wine professionals and amateurs which brings together the female wine producers of Priorat wine. Other guest wineries also take part.
Tast de Carinyenes (Tasting of Carignan Varieties)
Place: Porrera
Designation of Origin: DOQ Priorat
Tasting of wines made with the Carignan grape variety, with limited production. It is organised by the Porrera wineries association, made up of 22 wineries. The wines are bottled especially for this tasting session.

Fair dedicated to the DOQ Priorat and the DO Montsant wineries. In addition to wine tastings, wine cooking competitions, open days in various wineries are also organised, along with wine pairings, oil exhibitions, among other activities.
Tast de Cal Compte (Tasting Session at Cal Compte)

A tasting session that takes place in the rural accommodation of Cal Compte, where tastings of different DOQ Priorat and DO Montsant wines, virgin olive oils and organic bread with views of the vineyards and the Montsant mountain range.
Tast de les Mines i Nit de les Mines (Tasting at the Mines and Night of the Mines)

Gastronomy tasting in the Mines Museum venue in Bellmunt del Priorat with guest wineries from the DOQ Priorat. More than 40 wines are tasted accompanied by tapas made by restaurants in the area, all with live music giving the event a great atmosphere.
Mostra d’Arts i Oficis i Tastavin’s (Arts and Crafts Exhibition and “Tastavin’s”)

Ascó becomes the epicentre of Catalan crafts with the Arts and Crafts Exhibition. A wide range of demonstrations of the trades of stonemasons, potters, jewellers, stained glass artists, etc. The exhibition is held jointly with “Tastavin’s”, a wine tasting with the participation of four the designations of origin of Tarragona (DO Tarragona, DOQ Priorat, DO Montsant and DO Terra Alta). There is also an evening dance and a vermouth session to electronic music.

A festival held in the streets and venues of Barberà de la Conca with activities related to the world of wine, art and culture. Wines from local wineries made with the classic Trepat variety can be tasted, as well as having exhibitions staged by artists from various disciplines.
Fira del Vi del Pirineu (Pyrenees Wine Fair)

A fair that aims to promote the wineries and wines of the Alt Pirineu area. The wines are paired with traditional and local gastronomic dishes. Visits to private wineries are also scheduled.
Fira Masroig Vi Solidari (Masroig Solidarity Wine Fair)

Nit de Picapolls (Piquepoul Night)

Event that offers tastings of wines made with the piquepoul variety, one of the traditional grape varieties of the DO Pla de Bages. There is also a tapas tasting session prepared by the Fogons Gastronòmics del Bages Association, live music and castelleres (human towers) performances.

Festa de la Fil·loxera (Phylloxera Festival)

An event that commemorates how the inhabitants of Sant Sadurní overcame the phylloxera blight at the end of the 19th century. A correfoc (fire-run) group runs through the streets of the town and the festival concludes with a splash of cava to celebrate the victory.

Festival to kick off the start of the grape gathering season with the pressing of the first must. Its venues change, as it is held in a different municipality of the DO Empordà each year.
Festa del Vi i la Verema a l’antiga (Wine and Traditional Grape Gathering Festival)

The DOQ Priorat wineries travel back in time and go back to their roots for a day. The old-fashioned grape gathering methods with carts and mules, the piada del raïm (grape-treading) and wine tastings are the main events of the festival.

The “VI+” event aims to promote the world of wine through a cycle of wine tourism activities and experiences. Visits to wineries, guided tastings, menus and gastronomy workshops, wine therapy and literature and poetry paired with wine to name just a few.

Nearly fifty Cava wineries and restaurants, charcuteries, patisseries and chocolate makers offer tastings to visitors, who also have the option of visiting the town’s wineries and Cava producers.
Setmana del Cava (Cava Week)

Event organised by the Confraria del Cava Association with the collaboration of the majority of Sant Sadurní d’Anoia’s Cava producers. In addition to the Cava tasting, there is also the town parade, the opening proclamation, the appointment of the new members of the association and the “Cavatast” event.
Festa del Vi (Wine Festival)

Coinciding with the grape-gathering period and first wines from the harvest, this festival hosts wineries that are part of the Lleida-Costers del Segre Wine Route. The wine tastings are combined with children’s cooking workshops and musical performances.

DO Penedès wineries exhibit their new products and offer tastings at this fair, which has its origins in the first third of the 19th century. Cultural events such as theatrical and folk performances, parades and castelleres (human towers) celebrations round off the day.
Festa del Most (Wine Must Festival)

A traditional festival that revolves around the wine must, with countless activities for the whole family to enjoy: community sardine dinners, stick dancing, the town’s giant display, parades, correfocs (fire-runs), chocolate tastings and the traditional donkey’s climb up to the bell tower.

The proclamation announces the official start of this celebration, which includes events such as the pressing of the first must, the grape-treading contest and the weighing of the town’s Hereu and Pubilla (nominated Heir and Heiress who represent the town) with their equivalent weight in wine.

Festa del Ball del Most (Wine Must Dance Festival)

The end of the grape gathering period is accompanied by traditional dances and an unusual contest in Sant Pere de Riudebitlles. It is the known as Arrencaceps (lit. pull out the vines), which aims to find the strongest man and woman in the town. They have to complete a variety of tests such as pulling a tractor and tossing the caber. The festival includes wine and Cava tastings.
Festa del Most (Wine Must Festival)

Recovering the ancient traditions of the world of wine is the aim of this festival where there is a hearty breakfast for the grape pickers, community grape-treading, parades and the town dances, all accompanied with generous supplies of DO Penedès wines.

A large wine exhibition that hosts wines from the DO Montsant, Priorat, Terra Alta and Tarragona, as well as the wines from some wineries in the Ribera d’Ebre, within the DO. The most noteworthy events are the presentation of first wines of the harvest, the wine tasting contest and the exhibition and sale of products.

An exhibition to make the general public aware of the town’s gastronomic gem: the coca enramada (a savoury pastry typical of the area). Restaurants, farmers and cooperative wineries offer tastings of this typical product, accompanied by parallel activities such as show-cooking demonstrations, pairings, children’s activities and folk performances.
Festa de la Verema (Grape Gathering Festival)
Place: Corbera d’Ebre
Designation of Origin: DO Terra Alta
In Corbera d’Ebre they celebrate the end of the grape gathering period by recovering traditions such as grape picking demonstrations and the treading of the grapes. Tastings of DO Terra Alta wines, fortified wines and artisanal sour wines are paired with home-made pastries and the clotxa, a typical meal in the area that consists of a hollowed-out bread roll stuffed with tomatoes and sardines.

A traditional festival to welcome the first wine of the harvest. The parade of the barrels through the old quarter of Calonge up to the castle is a highlight of the day, which is rounded off with tastings and activities related to the world of wine.

Masroig celebrates this traditional festival where a tap is put in the barrel for the first time to taste the wine of the summer grape harvest. At the wine tasting festival of the DO Montsant wines, the event is accompanied by tasting sessions of oils from the new crop as well as musical performances.
Festa del Most de la Ràpita (La Ràpita Wine Must Festival)

When the grapes are ready to be trodden at the wineries, Santa Margarida i els Monjos begins the new wine festival, where the traditional wine tastings of the DO Penedès, vine pruning competitions and the corremost, an unusual parade with bicycles, a tour of the wineries accompanied by a charanga band while tasting the must.

Festival that combines the world of wine with that of cinema. The wineries organise exclusive cinema sessions that are held together with wine tastings and guided tours. You can also see film premières in the town’s cinema, with wine and cava tasting sessions.

A festival in which you can taste around 25 wines from the DO Penedès and other designations, directly from the wine producers in the counties of Garraf and Penedès. It also includes a gastronomic exhibition.
Festa del Vi Blanc (White Wine Festival)

The “white wine”, a sweet non-alcoholic wine that was made in the town on dates close to All Saints’ Day and the Castanyada (chestnut festival), is the star of this festival. Tastings of sweet and sour wines are also offered, which can be combined with a traditional tapa of the area.
“Tasta” Porrera

Experience in a unique tasting in Porrera by participating in this festival offered by 18 wineries of the town. The tastings are paired with dishes from the local cuisine from the gastronomic exhibition which is held together with “Tasta”.

This exhibition brings together more than 30 wineries from the DO Terra Alta which exhibit their new products. This festival includes the White Grenache Evening, a tasting of wines made with this variety, visits to wineries, guided tastings and gastronomic proposals from local chefs.

Biu un Tros de Sort (a play on words in Catalan, which means “experience a bit of luck”)

A route that combines hiking with food and wine and starts out in Sort. Along the way between vineyards, an explanation is given to visitors on how the wine producers of the Vall de Sort and the Batlliu work.

Annual exhibition of local wines that coincides with the celebrations organised by Bellmunt del Priorat in honour of the patron saint of miners. Several of the DOQ Priorat wineries offer wine tastings.
