Barcelona’s Liceu Opera House from inside
Visiting the Gran Teatre del Liceu is entering a fundamental part of the history of Barcelona and Catalonia. It’s a journey through 170 years of history in one of the opera houses with the most style and longest traditions in the world.
Its elegant Renaissance-style lobby welcomes you to lead you to the concert hall, shaped like a horseshoe and designed by the architect Miquel Garriga i Roca in 1847. In the Mirror Hall you can imagine the meetings of the Catalan bourgeoisie of the period, and lastly is the foyer, a massive space located under the orchestra where latecomers can often enjoy the show until the intermission.
You also have access to the Cercle del Liceu, a private club that houses an impressive private Modernista collection.
