Cook like Ferran Adrià from ancient Rome
Apicius was an eccentric gastronome from the Roman era. The Ferran Adrià of Emperor Augustus’ time. The conservation of his recipes until today has allowed the creation of a unique, didactic and interactive gastronomic initiative.
Domus Apicius –Ca l’Apici, translated from Latin- is the workshop-restaurant coordinated by Esther Talarn, a history professor who has brought to the kitchen the knowledge of the civilization which has left such an impression on Tarragona.
Wheat, oil and wine made up the basic elements of the Roman cuisine. They do as well in this workshop on the Costa Daurada where the scenery also plays an active part in the historical recreation. You’ll try the marinade of the time, the different chicken dishes and you’ll definitely lick your fingers with the hipotrima –the star dish-, fresh soft cheese and a thousand condiments like spices, nuts, celery, honey… And you’ll be responsible for preparing the house desserts –the domus: dates and stuffed plums. It will be a pleasure to eat while learning about Roman history and domestic curiosities. And get ready because you’ll lose your name as soon as you come through the door of Domus Apicius! Today your name will be Petrionius, Calidus, Calpurnia or Pomponia!
